Magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)_2) is a candidate chemical heat storage material for thermal load leveling in industrial systems. By operating cyclically a reversible chemical reaction, heat at temperatures of about 400℃ can be recovered and reutilized on demand. However, the kinetic of reactions is affected negatively by the low thermal conductivity of packed bed of Mg(OH)_2 pellets. Thermal conductivity enhancement of packed bed was achieved by developing a new composite of Mg(OH)_2 and expanded graphite, named EM. EM was compacted in figures of tablets. Thermal performances of packed beds of Mg(OH)_2 pellets and EM tablets were compared experimentally.
