非侵襲的手法による神経生理計測(特に脳機能計測),心理計測,物理計測,さらにはコンピュータ・シミュレーションを駆使して,聴覚を中心とした知覚メカニズムや認知メカニズムの解明を進めています.また,知覚・認知メカニズム研究で得られた成果を利用することで,骨伝導補聴器や骨伝導スマートホンを初めとした福祉機器・医用機器の開発や,室内の視聴覚環境の最適化,騒音の快音化といった応用研究にも取り組んでいます.

    Thanks to affordable 3D printers, creating complex designs like anatomically accurate dummy heads is now accessible. This study introduces dummy heads with 3D-printed skulls and silicone skins to explore crosstalk cancellation in bone conduction (BC). Crosstalk occurs when BC sounds from a transducer on one side of the head reach the cochlea on the opposite side. This can disrupt binaural cues essential for sound localization and speech understanding in noise for individuals using BC hearing devices. We provide a step-by-step guide to constructing the dummy head and demonstrate its application in canceling crosstalk. The 3D models used in this study are freely available for replication and further research. Several dummy heads were 3D-printed using ABS for the skull and silicone skins of varying hardness, with a 3-axis accelerometer at the cochlea location to simulate inner ear response. Since the cochlea is inaccessible in humans, we targeted crosstalk cancellation at the mastoid, assessing if this cancellation extended to the cochlea within the dummy heads. We compared these results with our previous experiments conducted on seven human subjects, who had their hearing thresholds measured with and without crosstalk cancellation, to evaluate if the dummy heads could reliably replicate human crosstalk cancellation effects.

    The medial olivocochlear reflex (MOCR) is reported to be modulated by the predictability of an upcoming sound occurrence. Here the relationship between MOCR and internal confidence in temporal anticipation evaluated by reaction time (RT) was examined. The timing predictability of the MOCR elicitor was manipulated by adding jitters to preceding sounds. MOCR strength/RT unchanged in a small (10%) jitter condition, and decrease/increase significantly in the largest (40%) jitter condition compared to the without-jitter condition. The similarity indicates that the MOCR strength reflects confidence in anticipation, and that the predictive control of MOCR and response execution share a common neural mechanism.

    Rhythms are the most natural cue for temporal anticipation because many sounds in our living environment have rhythmic structures. Humans have cortical mechanisms that can predict the arrival of the next sound based on rhythm and periodicity. Herein, we showed that temporal anticipation, based on the regularity of sound sequences, modulates peripheral auditory responses via efferent innervation. The medial olivocochlear reflex (MOCR), a sound-activated efferent feedback mechanism that controls outer hair cell motility, was inferred noninvasively by measuring the suppression of otoacoustic emissions (OAE). First, OAE suppression was compared between conditions in which sound sequences preceding the MOCR elicitor were presented at regular (predictable condition) or irregular (unpredictable condition) intervals. We found that OAE suppression in the predictable condition was stronger than that in the unpredictable condition. This implies that the MOCR is strengthened by the regularity of preceding sound sequences. In addition, to examine how many regularly presented preceding sounds are required to enhance the MOCR, we compared OAE suppression within stimulus sequences with 0-3 preceding tones. The OAE suppression was strengthened only when there were at least three regular preceding tones. This suggests that the MOCR was not automatically enhanced by a single stimulus presented immediately before the MOCR elicitor, but rather that it was enhanced by the regularity of the preceding sound sequences.

    Fluid-filled fractures involving kinks and branches result in complex interactions between Krauklis waves-highly dispersive and attenuating pressure waves within the fracture-and the body waves in the surrounding medium. For studying these interactions, we introduce an efficient 2D time-harmonic elastodynamic boundary element method. Instead of modeling the domain within a fracture as a finite-thickness fluid layer, this method employs zero-thickness, poroelastic Linear-Slip Interfaces to model the low-frequency, local fluid-solid interaction. Using this method, the scattering of Krauklis waves by a single kink along a straight fracture and the radiation of body waves generated by Krauklis waves within complex fracture systems are examined.

    Brain computer interfaces based on speech imagery have attracted attention in recent years as more flexible tools of machine control and communication. Classifiers of imagined speech are often trained for each individual due to individual differences in brain activity. However, the amount of brain activity data that can be measured from a single person is often limited, making it difficult to train a model with high classification accuracy. In this study, to improve the performance of the classifiers for each individual, we trained variational autoencoders (VAEs) using magnetoencephalographic (MEG) data from seven participants during speech imagery. The trained encoders of VAEs were transferred to EEGNet, which classified speech imagery MEG data from another participant. We also trained conditional VAEs to augment the training data for the classifiers. The results showed that the transfer learning improved the performance of the classifiers for some participants. Data augmentation also improved the performance of the classifiers for most participants. These results indicate that the use of VAE feature representations learned using MEG data from multiple individuals can improve the classification accuracy of imagined speech from a new individual even when a limited amount of MEG data is available from the new individual.

    We conducted laboratory studies on the geophysical signals from Arctic saline permafrost soils to help understand the physical and mechanical processes during freeze-thaw cycles. Our results revealed low electrical resistivity (<20 Omega m) and elastic moduli (7.7 GPa for Young's modulus and 2.9 GPa for shear modulus) at temperatures down to similar to-10 degrees C, indicating the presence of a significant amount of unfrozen saline water under the current field conditions. The spectral induced polarization signal showed a systematic shift during the freezing process, affected by concurrent changes of temperature, salinity, and ice formation. An anomalous induced polarization response was first observed during the transient period of supercooling and the onset of ice nucleation. Seismic measurements showed a characteristic maximal attenuation at the temperatures immediately below the freezing point, followed by a decrease with decreasing temperature. The calculated elastic moduli showed a non-hysteric response during the freeze - thaw cycle, which was different from the concurrently measured electrical resistivity response where a differential resistivity signal is observed depending on whether the soil is experiencing freezing or thawing. The differential electrical resistivity signal presents challenges for unfrozen water content estimation based on Archie's law. Using an improved formulation of Archie's law with a variable cementation exponent, the unfrozen water content estimation showed a large variation depending on the choice of the resistivity data during either a freezing or thawing cycle. Combining the electrical and seismic results, we suggest that, rather than a large hysteresis in the actual unfrozen water content, the shift of the resistivity response may reflect the changes of the distribution pattern of the unfrozen water (or ice) in the soil matrix during repeated freeze and thaw processes. Collectively, our results provide an improved petrophysical understanding of the physical and mechanical properties of saline permafrost during freeze - thaw transitions, and suggest that large uncertainty may exist when estimating the unfrozen water content using electrical resistivity data.     楽曲と騒音の分離が困難な場合,騒音に対して適用したANCが楽曲にも影響を与えることがある.ANCが楽曲の聴感印象に及ぼす影響を主観評価によって検討し,刺激音の物理特性との相関を観察した.スペクトル重心の異なる3種類の楽曲にANCアルゴリズムを適用し,刺激音を作成した(スペクトル重心:楽曲1:620Hz,楽曲2:1099Hz,楽曲3:2061Hz).スペクトル重心が最も低く500Hz以下に強いパワーを有する楽曲1では,好ましさの相対尺度値とSNRについての正の相関がみられた(r=0.94 p<0.05).好ましさの相対尺度値と音圧レベルについて,優位な相関は見られなかったものの,楽曲1と楽曲2,3で異なった傾向が見られた

    This study was performed to determine significant light wavelengths to improve color discrimination ability of subjects with deutan. We conducted both the Ishihara test and the Farnsworth Panel D-15 test for subjects with deutan and normal color vision. Seven different LED lights from 450 to 660 nm and an additional D65 white lamp were utilized to change the lighting conditions, including the wavelength and intensity. The results of the Ishihara test and D-15 test showed that color identification of deutans was markedly improved with the longer wavelength LEDs regardless of the intensity of the additional D65 lamp. Notably, the error rates of deutans in the Ishihara test were < 25% for LED wavelengths of 630 and 660nm. In the case of subjects with normal color vision, the D65 lamp abolished the errors in the Ishihara test, regardless of the LED wavelength. Addition of the D65 lamp also decreased the number of crossings in the D-15 test. These results suggested that illumination by LED light with longer wavelengths, such as 630 and 660nm, may provide deutans with greater red-green discrimination ability in both the Ishihara test and the Farnsworth Panel D-15 test.     <p>近年,脳活動計測に基づく印象評価の方法が提案されており,脳活動指標を用いた印象評価は心理的バイアスの低減や,意識下の印象をも評価できる可能性が期待されている.本稿では,エアコン音の涼しさ,および好ましさといった聴感印象を対象として,エアコン音聴取時の脳活動からそれらの印象を予測するモデルを構築した.まず,刺激音としてエアコン音に時間変動を付与した刺激音を複数作成し,これらの刺激音聴取時の脳磁界を計測した.被験者には刺激音を2つずつ対にして呈示し,刺激対に対する涼しさ,および好ましさの比較判断も同時に記録した.次に,計測された脳磁界から時間-周波数特徴を抽出した後,非負値テンソル因子分解を用いて脳領域,時間ごとの周波数律動を表現する低次元の脳活動特徴量を抽出した.脳活動特徴量と刺激対に対する比較判断から,エアコン音の涼しさ,および好ましさの尺度値を予測するモデルを,回帰モデルおよびサポートベクターマシン(SVM)に基づくモデルを用いて,被験者ごとに構築した.構築したモデルの性能を一対比較判断予測の正解率によって評価した結果,SVMに基づくモデルのほうが回帰モデルよりも高い予測精度を示し,このモデルが予測モデルを用いた脳活動からの聴感印象の予測に有用であることが示された.</p>

    &lt;p&gt;The influence of Active Noise Control (ANC) on auditory impression for listening to music other than noise was observed by psychometric measurement and Magnetoencephalography (MEG) measurement in a situation where both noise and sound off-target sounds were mixed. For the stimulus sound, five situations under kinds of sounds, with or without one before noise reduction and one with noise reduction by ANC, were set created for three kinds of each music. In the psychological measurement, the effectiveness adverse effect of ANC was observed in the case of music with the lowest spectral center of gravity. In the MEG measurement, the effective duration of the ACF, τe , of MEG in the 20-50 Hz range, was employed represents and it lengthened for preference stimuli.&lt;/p&gt;

    <p>自動車空調音のサウンドデザインにおいては,騒音レベルの低減に主眼が置かれてきた.しかしながら,動作音が小さすぎると,機器の操作性や動作状態の了解性が低下するなどの問題が生じる場合がある.空調音の温冷感に着目し,スペクトル包絡を伸縮させた自動車空調モデル音に対する涼しさ感・暖かさ感を評価した.線形予測符号化を用いてモデル化した空調音のスペクトル重心を操作して,5種類の刺激音を作成した.それらの涼しさ/暖かさに関する聴感印象を,3種類の室温環境下でScheffeの一対比較法を用いて実施した.多くの被験者で,すべての熱環境条件において,スペクトル重心の高い刺激ほど,より涼しい印象を,逆にスペクトル重心の低いほどより暖かい印象を受けていることが示された.この結果は,暖色や寒色のような色によってもたらされる温冷印象[に似た現象であることを改めて示唆するものである.</p>

    Noise induced by a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system in a vehicle is an important factor that affects the comfort of the interior of a car cabin. Much effort has been devoted to reduce noise levels, however, there is a need for a new sound design that addresses the noise problem from a different point of view. In this study, focusing on the auditory impression of automotive HVAC noise concerning coolness and warmness, psychoacoustical listening tests were performed using a paired comparison technique under various conditions of room temperature. Five stimuli were synthesized by stretching the spectral envelopes of recorded automotive HVAC noise to assess the effect of the spectral centroid, and were presented to normal-hearing subjects. Results show that the spectral centroid significantly affects the auditory impression concerning coolness and warmness; a higher spectral centroid induces a cooler auditory impression regardless of the room temperature.

Noise induced by a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system in a vehicle is an important factor that affects the comfort of the interior of a car cabin. Much effort has been devoted to reduce noise levels, however, there is a need for a new sound design that addresses the noise problem from a different point of view. In this study, two subjective assessments were performed focusing on the auditory impression of automotive HVAC noise concerning coolness and warmness. First, paired comparison tests were carried out under various conditions of room temperature. Five stimuli were synthesized by stretching the spectral envelopes of recorded automotive HVAC noise to assess the effect of the spectral centroid. Normal-hearing subjects were asked to rate the auditory impression of the stimuli for each pair on a seven-point scale according to how much the latter is warmer (for the winter tests) or cooler (for the summer tests) than the former. Results show that the spectral centroid significantly affects the auditory impression concerning coolness and warmness; a higher spectral centroid induces a cooler auditory impression regardless of the room temperature. Second, effects of HVAC noises on the subjects&#039; sensation of coolness and warmness were evaluated by using a method of continuous judgment by category. Room temperature were controlled to increase/decrease linearly, and HVAC noise, having warm/cool auditory impressions, were presented. Subjects had to answer their sensation of coolness/warmness at regular time intervals. Results obtained that HVAC noise has some significant effect on the sensation of coolness/warmness.

    <p>The evaluation of subjective impressions induced by environmental sounds using neurophysiological indices has been proposed in recent years. In this paper, we focus on the evaluation of HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) sounds, and models that predict subjective coolness/preference induced by time-varying HVAC sound from brain activities were constructed. First, magnetoencephalographic (MEG) measurements were carried out to measure brain activities while hearing HVAC sound with paired comparison task. Second, feature vectors representing time-frequency components of brain activities on the whole head were extracted from MEG data using the time-frequency analysis and nonnegative tensor factorization (NTF). And third, two kinds of predictive model were constructed from the brain feature vectors and comparative judgments to pairs of stimuli using a regression model or an SVM-based method. Evaluation experiments show that the SVM-based method is more effective than the regression model.</p>

    <p>能動騒音制御が騒音以外の聴感印象に与える影響を、騒音と騒音以外の音の両者が混在する状況で、心理計測および脳磁界計測で観察した。騒音を低減する前の音と、ANCによって騒音低減した音を、音楽毎に5種類作成し、刺激音とした。心理計測において、スペクトル重心が最も低い音楽の場合にANCよる悪影響が見られた。結果は、信号自体の中の反復特徴を表す20-50Hz範囲のMEGのACFの有効持続時間τeが、嗜好刺激の提示の間により長くなったことを示している。</p>

The UCL (uncomfortable loudness level) is an important factor in hearing aid fitting and the sound design of a notification sound signal. The UCL can be measured by asking for a subjective judgment. As this method requires a great deal of time with loud sounds, a heavy load is applied on participants. An objective UCL estimation method without the load on participants is required. In this study, to construct a neurophysiological index of the UCL, auditory evoked potentials and auditory evoked neuromagnetic response fields (which reflect auditory information processing), and the level dependency characteristics of the brain&#039;s spontaneous magnetic field&#039;s alpha wave (which reflects the comfort of the auditory stimuli) were conducted. The activity of the auditory pathway and UCL-sensitive reactions were observed.

    症例は79歳女性,68歳時に胆囊結石を指摘された.77歳時,総胆管結石による胆管炎で当院受診.その時施行された腹部CT検査にて総胆管結石と,門脈血栓症による門脈左枝の閉塞,そして肝左葉の萎縮を認めた.抗凝固療法と経十二指腸乳頭括約筋切開術および切石術を施行したが門脈閉塞は残存した.経過観察のため施行した腹部CT検査にて萎縮した肝外側区域に腫瘤を認めた.画像所見と腫瘍マーカー高値から肝内胆管癌と診断し肝左葉切除を施行した.病理組織学的診断では3.5×2.5cmの中分化型腺癌で,血管と胆管への侵襲と漿膜浸潤を認め,リンパ節転移を伴っていた.肝内結石と異なり,総胆管結石への肝内胆管癌の合併は稀である.また,門脈血栓症後の肝内胆管癌発症例は報告がない.総胆管結石に起因する門脈血栓症により肝萎縮をきたし,萎縮した肝左葉に肝内胆管癌を発症した稀な症例を経験したので文献的考察を加えて報告する.
